Carli Creek Water Quality Project
Clackamas, OR
|
Located at Carli Creek’s confluence of the Clackamas River south of Happy Valley, OR, Clackamas Water Environment Services (WES) designed the innovative Carli Creek Water Quality Project to filter harmful pollutants from stormwater runoff from surrounding industrial properties that were constructed before stormwater standards were in place. The project included restoration of habitat over 1,500 feet of the Carli Creek’s channel and riparian areas, including its confluence with the Clackamas River. The project creates and improves wetland areas and stream habitat with step pools, added large wood, and extensive native planting and weed treatments.
Cascade assisted WES in monitoring the wetland treatment cells and riparian areas for compliance with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Oregon Department of State Lands permits and mitigation performance standards. Cascade teamed with Mosaic Ecology on this project. Mosaic is maintaining the site to ensure the achievement of native plant cover goals. Cascade also performed fish surveys in the restored Carli Creek channel in order to demonstrate juvenile salmonid use of the site. The video below, produced by WES, features Cascade staff Todd Alsbury and Simon Apostol as they sampled fish in December 2020. |
