Clackamas Partnership Strategic Planning and Grant Development Support
Clackamas County, Oregon
The Clackamas Partnership is a collaboration between Portland metropolitan area watershed councils, government agencies, tribes, and other organizations committed to improving watershed health.
Cascade provided project management, facilitation, and technical support for the Partnership's development of a Strategic Restoration Action Plan. The Plan will guide voluntary restoration actions designed to improve stream habitat, water quality, and native fish populations. The Strategic Plan covers the Clackamas River Basin, a stretch of the Willamette River, and other tributaries flowing into the east side of the Willamette River, including Abernethy, Kellogg, and Johnson Creeks. Historically, the Clackamas River and these tributaries supported thriving salmon, steelhead, and other native fish populations.
As part of the strategic planning process, Cascade developed and submitted a restoration implementation grant proposal to the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board (OWEB). OWEB selected the Partnership to receive a Focused Investment Partnership (FIP) implementation grant. The $8,744,080 grant will support fish habitat restoration in the Clackamas River Basin and other watersheds over a 6-year investment period, 2019 - 2025. The Partnership estimates leveraging at least an equal amount of additional funding from Partnership organizations and other sources to support their efforts.
“This project is a great investment of the state’s Lottery dollars,” says Meta Loftsgaarden, OWEB’s executive director. “This investment benefits native fish species while improving water quality and supporting the local natural resource economy.”
