Gallagher Creek Mitigation Site
Centralia, WA
Cascade developed a 118-acre mitigation site in the Newaukum River Basin. The final mitigation plan received approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Washington State Department of Ecology. While the site is primarily wetland and upland mosaic preservation and creek preservation, additional mitigation site components also include upland buffer enhancement and wetland enhancement areas.
During mitigation plan development, Cascade ecologists assessed wetland and stream functions and identified opportunities to improve wetland function, while minimizing disturbance to existing high quality habitats. We also developed site protection mechanisms that allow for wildlife movements.
Site construction included reclamation of dirt roads, breaching gravel roads to eliminate impounding of surface water, and vegetation enhancements. Cascade provided construction oversight and is currently developing a detailed monitoring plan.
